The Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution—Institute of Philosophy and Law of the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences originated as the department of philosophy of the Institute of History, Philology and Philosophy of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, which was established in 1966.
In 1990 it became an Institute as a part of the United Institute of History, Philology and Philosophy of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, according to the 26.05.1990 decree No 525 of the USSR Council of Ministers and the decision of the Presidium of the Siberian Branch AS USSR of 26.12.1990 No 591 for the further development of scientific research in the areas of philosophy, sociology and law. In 2006 the Institute gained its independence from the United Institute of History, Philology and Philosophy of the Siberian Branch AS USSR according to the decision of the Presidium of Russian Academy of Sciences of 18.04.2006 No134, and was renamed as the Institute of Philosophy and Law of the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences. Since then it has been an autonomous scientific institution.
