Abstract. The work presents an understanding of modern philosophizing about man in terms of orientation and navigation. Described the genesis of the idea of cultural orientation on the material of the primitive myths of archaic cultures. A brief description of the concepts of orientation in philosophy (V. Shtegmaier, M. Konsh) and psychology (P. Galperin, B. Elkonin). Divorced concepts of orientation and navigation. Orientation refers to the article as a practice search of Man are places and landmarks ready, and navigation is described as an act of building a personal itinerary of cultural development and identity formation, personalities card.
