Abstract. The work is the first part of a large work devoted to the development of the concept of anthropology of autobiography. Autobiography is understood by the author not as a literary genre, but as a method and a cultural form through which a person carries out the so-called anthropopractice of taking care of himself in the form of anthropological navigation, that is, reflexive work on building and comprehending his own life path. Thus, the problem of autobiography is considered purely in the context and within the framework of a broader and more meaningful concept - the concept of the Path. This article is an abbreviated version of the first part of the work, which gives an introduction to the topic, the genesis of the concept of anthropology of autobiography. A review is given of the initial ideas of Dilthey and Bakhtin, who introduced the concept of autobiography into modern philosophy. A number of basic principles of constructing an autobiography as a method of navigation are considered. The state of the study of the issue in contemporary literature is considered. A number of intellectual reductions of the autobiography are criticized.
Keywords: autobiography, anthropology, author, autobiography, autobiography as a concept and method, anthropological navigation.
