Abstract . The article is devoted to the problematization of autobiography from the point of view of its role in the process of personality formation. It is shown that autobiography as a form of self-practice transcends the boundaries of the literary genre and should be understood as an anthropological action. The characteristics of an autobiography to compare it with philosophy are found in this context. It is shown that genuine autobiography always bears signs of anthropological philosophy, and genuine philosophy is always autobiographical philosophy. The general properties of autobiography and philosophy are defined: the axiological nature of cognition, self-reflection, synchronism of thought and intent on the resistance to death. On this basis, I affirm that any autobiography is, to one degree or another, a philosophical work. The problems of correlation of the author and the hero in the space of an autobiographical text, as well as the conditions and methods for the mutual influence of the author on the reader and the reader on the author, are discussed in this article. The axiological correlation of fact and event, of historical circumstances and inner life, of biography and autobiography is revealed. The thesis that the autobiographical narrative anytime is unfinished is substantiated.
